Episode 32: Music on StageFirst aired: Thursday, 15 January 2015 at 17.40 hours
In 2008 Onno Smit got the idea to make a solo album with a number of musicians, without having to spend large amounts.
Weekly with a healthy dose of live performances from our own archives include the Liberation , the Night of the Koemarkt and muziektent.
In this episode of Music On Stage: Beans and FatBack on the Liberation Festival in Leeuwarden.
The new Beans & Fatback album With Skin Attached is a lyrical manifesto for a much-maligned genre: rhythm & blues, the precursor to soul, rock & roll, and pop. All of the great artists who everyone has in their record collections (The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Amy Winehouse, The Black Keys) have their origins in rhythm & blues. But the general public don’t know this mother genre as well as they do its children. So on their new album, Beans & Fatback lead the way. Make the old days new,” sings Onno on the album’s poppiest song.
Onno Smit contacted a number of musician friends , asking if they wanted to take a day with him , as he afterwards expanded would cook for them. Several musicians, including Tim Knol , Paul Willemsen ( Supersub ), Daniel Rose ( C-Mon & Kypski ), Laurens Joensen and Jet Stevens ( Fay Lovsky ) , Cody Bird ( Lefties Soul Connection ) and the street orchestra 's concert of the First Love Night , found this a great idea and this led eventually to 11 tracks.
On the Liberation festival they played the following songs:
* Fire and Brimstone
* Come and get It
