A portrait of the Frisian politician, trade unionist and 'red' reverend AS Talma, the founder of the social insurance system in the 20th century. Prior to Willem Drees, he came with his retirement, the Frisian vicar had a ready-made model for supporting the elderly.

Aritius Sybrandus Talma (1864-1916) was the uncrowned champion of Protestant workers in the struggle for social rights. He portrayed a Christian social alternative to the appeal of socialism. His influence on innovative social legislation was particularly high. So was Talma's old age pension for workers, the forerunner of the AOW. Talma is with comrade Abraham Kuyper mentioned as the spiritual father of the modern Christian social movement in the Netherlands.
