On May 1, the Netherlands celebrates Labor Day. Documentary is about political career and personal life of communist Fré Meis (1921-1992). Meis was not only elected to parliament for the Communist Party of the Netherlands, but above all an eventful strike leader, trade union leader and champion of the labor movement.

His nickname was: the People's Commissar of Groningen. He was also a parliamentarian and councilor in Groningen. The strikes, which he led in the East Groningen straw cardboard industry, brought him national fame. The film was made in co-production with the Documentation Centre for Dutch Political Parties. There also appeared a book "Fre Meis salesman in revolutions".
