    Episode 37: Hooghalen

First aired: Thursday, 30 April 2015 at 17.00 hours

Hooghalen is an esdorp on the flank of the sandy soils. It sits above a Salt dome. The main attraction of Hooghalen is the Memorial Center Camp Westerbork. Here the story is told from Camp Westerbork and the Holocaust in general. The transit camp Westerbork lays on the edge of the former neighbor Westerbork and is named after the town and not to Hooghalen. The village of Westerbork is much further south.

In this episode Roos is this time in the village of Hooghalen in the municipality of Midden-Drenthe in the province of Drenthe.

There are hundreds of villages in the northern provinces and all of them are worth to get the attention. Not only the villages are worth the attention but also the northern cities. Who will Roos be talking to this time?

And indeed, we took a look at the main attraction the Memorial Center Camp Westerbork.

The history of Camp Westerbork is best known for the years 1942-1945. However, the camp was already built in 1939 and put into use. Until its demolition in 1971, the camp was almost constantly in use. In the museum of the Memorial Center Camp Westerbork is told about the lives of victims and survivors of the camp. Personal stories in exhibitions and films tell the story of Westerbork also accessible to children.
