    The village was established around the monastery which was founded here in 1192. This monastery of Aduard grew into the largest and most influential of the surrounding district. At its height it had more than 10,000 hectares of land, part of which in Friesland and Drenthe. The main reason for the enormous growth of the monastery was that it took seriously to hand the reclamation and drainage of the wasteland.

    In this episode Roos is this time in the village of Aduard in the municipality of Zuidhorn in the province of Groningen.

    There are hundreds of villages in the northern provinces and all of them are worth to get the attention. Not only the villages are worth the attention but also the northern cities. Who will Roos be talking to this time?

    Medieval churches and ancient riverbeds have survived through the ages. Abbey Aduard has been a major influence on its surroundings and the trail of the monks who lived there to follow in the wide area of the village.
