De Gouden Swipe (the golden whip) is the Frisian movie adaption from 1997 by the book from Abe Brouwer, directed by Steven de Jong. The main parts of the movie are for Rense Westra, Steven de Jong and Maaike Schuurmans. The movie was recorded in only 24 days. The title song In Nije Dei became the breakthrough single for the band De Kast.
De Gouden Swipe takes place in the north of Friesland in the early thirties. Ate Wallinga (Steven de Jong), son of Douwe (Rense Westra) confronts his father with the life confession of his mother. On the moment Ate hears the confession, Douwe wins the wanted Gouden Zweep on the racetrack. When they get home the conflict grows so much that Douwe hits his son with the Gouden Zweep and breaks it. Ate leaves. Father and son get back together when Ate's mom passes away. The conflicts start again soon enough and Douwe focuses himself on winning the Gouden Zweep again.
