Episode 61: Yvonne GeerdinkFirst aired: Friday, 5 February 2016 at 18.32 hours
Stepmother of 4000 newborns
As a child she had only one ideal: I want to have the cancer out of the world. In some way, that original drive to want to make the world a better place. Yvonne Geerdink prompted it to achieve better world: the construction of a large maternity hospital in Tanzania where each year 4,000 children are born: safe, clean, good medication and good shelter.
Pregnant women come from far and wide to give birth in the clinic. It has become her life, where she puts her energy and soul. As an 'entrepreneur' Geerdink had already built up an impressive track record in the North, particularly in the housing and management. As HTS engineering she was struck by both the social side of living, as well as the technical side of it. But it was obviously not enough for her: she had to work for the happiness of others and when this project came she made a quick choice and made it with such conviction.
