Episode 32: Cultureel Studentencentrum Usva GroningenFirst aired: Wednesday, 27 April 2016 at 17.32 hours
Today in Toneelmeesters host Arno van der Heyden mingles with students. Not in the lecture halls, but at Cultureel Studentencentrum Usva.
Since 1969 the Usva is the cultural facility for the University of Groningen and attracts yearly more than 7.000 visitors to its theatre. The abbreviation 'usva' stands for Universitaire Stichting Vormings Activiteiten (ademic foundation educational activities), now the full official name is 'Cultureel Studentencentrum Usva' (cultural student centre Usva). Besides the plays that are shown at the theatre, Usva offers students a variety of workshops relating to art and culture. In 1996 the theatre moved to the former bank building of ABN. Where the vaults of wealthy Groningers used to be, students are taking their dance courses now. Arno talks to programmer Bram Douwes and Tjitske Kingma about the way students keep the theatre running.
