Episode 127: Music from the North of the NetherlandsFirst aired: Saturday, 2 July 2016 at 18.20 hours
This week in Muziek uit het Noorden another healthy dose of video clips of artists from the Northern Netherlands. Different genres, something for everyone!
Kraantje Pappie – Euro’s (from Groningen)
No one knows how Alex van der Zouwen came up with his artist name. This Dutch rapper has had many hit songs already. His first album was made in collaboration with Noisia, which is why the tracks sound like they are influenced by dubstep. Even though he can write lyrics about serious subjects, Kraantje Pappie is mostly known for his humoristic songs.
Ilse DeLange – Next to me (from Overijssel)
Country music from Overijssel. Ilse Delange has been a known name in the Netherlands for years, but since 2014 she is known by whole Europe. The singer has received many awards in the past and managed to be runner up with her band ‘the Common Linnets’ at the Eurovision Song Contest 2014. In addition, she functioned as a vocal coach on the show ‘The Voice of Holland’.
Joost Marsman – De laatste mooie dag (from Groningen)
He was the lead singer of the band I.O.S. form Groningen: that’s where it all started for Joost Marsman. Next to singing, he plays guitar, piano and sax. In 2008 he decided to go solo, because he wanted more artistic freedom. Thus, I.O.S. gave their final concert in 2009. In 2010 Marsman released his first solo album, with songs inspired by love. Now he calls himself ‘singer of the most diverse lyrics’.
Animal Antics – Handful (from Groningen)
A band from Groningen, but with the Brighton sound. Their songs are uplifting, groovy beats make sure no dance floor remains empty. The band has played on radio shows like Radio Veronica, 538 and 3fm. Their getting booked my festivals regurarely. In conclusion, things are going great for the Animal Antics!
A Silent Express – Sick of your sickness (from Friesland)
Since 2004, the Frysian Rik Annema, Dirk Sander Kooistra, Henk Jan Kooistra and Sanne Meems form the band 'A Silent Express'. Together they make indierock, with influences from new wave, pop and psychedelic music. A real dream came true in 2010: becoming the support act of one of their biggest inspirations, Duran Duran.
