The delicate soul of a writer of Hylke Speerstra

Like no other writer Hylke Speerstra knows how to describe the Frisian soul with his books. He released earlier with "The Cruel Paradise ' the fortunes of Frisian emigrants after World War II to life with his latest book on Clogs by Dessa ," he describes the adventures of "our ( Frisian ) boys ' in the former Dutch East Indies. Conscripted soldiers called their number. Were they heroes or an extension of an oppressive colonial policy ? In their old age , these men are still struggling with their past wartime and their family with them. Speerstra , who as a boy looked up against this generation of men , would be broadcast as a Marine , were it not for a twist of fate saved him before. Speerstra is also attached to an turbulent postwar time when some Indiers were heroes and some were overtaken or never returned to their patrols.
