Once Henk van der Zwaag was farmer and he kept cows. He then opted for a position at the Frisian Cattle Breed and after wandering in the veterinary world , he left welfare for that of humans. He was general manager of Empatec in Friesland.
Empatec is a social enterprise that people with disabilities helps at work in the Parks Department, as an IT specialist, as a woodworker, as Packer as a welder, as caterer and as domestic help. Van der Zwaag , originally engineer: 'I had no papers in this direction, but the will to do something for people was clearly visible enough to be able to fulfill this function.
The company employs a total of 1,700 people spread over a large part of Friesland. The headquarters is in Sneek, where large production facilities are located. Van der Zwaag : "Often big companies suddenly want a product and that we can make them and supply. We tend to look at what people can do.
Empatec is a success and is first in the Netherlands. Because their work is constantly increasing also by the inflow through the new participation law: for example, people who are on welfare and who should be helped to work. In his office stands twenty cows in miniature. But van der Zwaag is primarily a people person who indeed goes whistling to work.
