    Episode 24: Engel Modderman

First aired: Tuesday, 10 February 2015 at 17.00 hours

Engel Modderman is political leader of the United Communist Party (VCP) and his party has seats in two municipalities in Eastern Groningen; Oldambt and Pekela. Once he was a welder at a shipyard but one day he ended up in politics.

He still can remember that as a councilor he had to ask the first question. Sweat dripped from his forhead. Nevertheless, he is more than thirty years in municipal politics. His party is growing and he is preparing for the States Elections in March. He was recently arrested when he demonstrated against the social injustice and was brought by his fellow protesters in Groningen.

For Modderman the mildness and gentleness himself, the advent of the socialist utopia is regarded as something people need to work on together.

He thinks it is a shame that in a country like the Netherlands there are food banks. The distribution of income in his communist perspective skewed in our country. We want to Groningen? Then we go to Groningen!
