The history of Haren was defined by it's location on the northern offset of the Hondsrug, a low ridge in eastern Drenthe. Haren is the most northern place of the Hondsrug by one. In archaeological excavations coins and plot shards were found which lead to the conclusion that Haren has been inhabited since the Roman times and the Middle Ages.
In this episode of InBeeld Roos is in the Groningse village Haren. In Haren the biggest botanical garden of the Netherlands can be found, the Hortus. On a surface of about 20 hecatres plants from all over the world can be found. Roos also visits the adjacent Biotoop, a living community. There are hundreds of villages in the northern provinces and every one of them is worth to get attention. Not only the villages are worth it but the cities as well.
