Make the world a more beautiful place from a shed in Uithuizen. Marte Röling is guest en talks to Jan van Friesland about her paintings.

Once the flamboyant, smoking artist Marte Röling got offered a jet in her garden, a used Starfighter. With that she made national news. But she's also known from her portraits of Beatrix and sculptures for business and government agencies.

For instance a 'schrijvende hand' has been hanging from het top of the ING building in Leeuwarden for over 40 years, a sculpture she made is located by the harmony building of the University of Groningen and in the harbor in Harderwijk stands 'Het Hanzebaken' a golden ship on the sea.

Her work and life were strongly connected at times, for instance when her partner died and she made an exhibition with portraits of him. Röling lives by the time and as a construction worker by being involved with saws, chisels and hammers. Even the high climb to her sculptures in the making, although on age, is still meant for her.
