Hans Nijland, director of FC Groningen, commends itself with the recent success of his club a happy man. That was different when he took office in 1996.

Lack of money and a bad image thwarted the club: "The mice were dead for the closet," he says. The KNVB Cup was "the icing on the cake" of a great football season for FC Groningen. "We all want to be champion," said Nijland. "But for many this is not possible." The Director now goes himself for his twentieth season. "I started in 1996. When the club was financially dramatic for, we had a selection of old and suffered from a bad image."

And even though it was never meant Nijland was director, he wanted to make the best of it. "I'm an entrepreneur, not a runaway. And yes, there were many setbacks, but also a lot of fun." The negative image to be erased. "In the old stadium were many supporters riots," said Nijland. A new stadium was to bring improvement. That was a 10-year plan, but a success. "Euroborg is a modern stadium where everyone feels comfortable. Even families." Nevertheless Nijland take care that FC Groningen folk club which keeps it was. "We do this by being approachable and respond appropriately to requests and wishes of supporters."
